Ct state tax 2024 Form: What You Should Know

A Connecticut Income Tax return must be filed in a specific manner. Generally, these instructions are used to complete an Income Tax return. For income tax returns for the calendar year 2017, please review the instructions for income tax return. Fill out IRS Form 941, Schedule CR: Qualified Expenses. A Connecticut resident does NOT have to include Qualified Expenses in their Connecticut income tax return if the Qualified Expenses: Are: Paid to a Connecticut-resident business Ordered by a Connecticut-resident person who was a Connecticut resident during the year they paid the qualified expenses Ordered to a Connecticut-resident charitable organization Ordered to a Connecticut-resident person to whom an annuity was paid for his or her lifetime Ordered by a Connecticut-resident who was 65 years or older At the beginning of any year, the IRS provides the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services (DRS) with one or two examples of the types of payment that are considered qualifying expenses. The examples are provided each year in the annual IRS publication, “IRS Publication 60-24: Return to Sender: The Annual Guide to Expenses Paid or Accrued for Tax Purposes.” DRS makes a decision on which expenses to include in your 2024 Connecticut income tax return. The decision is not dependent on any decisions of the IRS. Instead, the decision to include or exclude a payment is a question for the DRS to make based on specific criteria. If the DRS makes the determination that one of these payments is a qualifying expense, the DRS must file the return showing the dollar amount of the qualifying expense. If you choose to include your Qualified Expenses on your Connecticut income tax return, you must include your deduction on your income tax Form 1040, along with your return (the Schedule CR or Schedule CT). If you do not include your deductible expenses on your income tax Form 1040, and do not deduct them on Schedule CR, you will owe a 5% tax on the portion of your total expenses that you include on your income tax return. For more information, see “Do I Have to Include my Expenses on my Connecticut Income Tax Return?” below. Note: DRS does not charge any tax for a Connecticut resident filing a Schedule CR. If your Form CT-3 is received by the DRS on or after February 28, 2018, but you are an out or nonexempt individual or your employer is a Connecticut resident, you will be mailed a Schedule CR in your name.
